Christmas year 2010
Tuesday, December 28, 2010
This year Christmas was quite alright. The only thing that had made it special was the special tips. I worked in a Filiphino restaurant. Usually the customers place the tips in the bill folder after they got their change. In my entire 8 months in working there , never had i been given tips placed directly on my little palms. The truth about our company when it comes to tips is that we placed them in a container, and the tips in the end of the day... Goes back to the company. It's being used as loose change for our salary or as the customer's change :( I brought this filiphino family to their table. The guy(a father i guess) was happily yapping to me: ''Today is her birthday , is there any special thing for her?''. I said not really & simply wished her happy birthday. Our restaurant don't really give gifts and stuff(unless she wants a paper hat, i can make one for her.Haha). So i asked for her name and told the band that it's her birthday. So the music band on the stage wished them. I was pretty surprised when this filiphino father called me when i was in the bar, right behind his table. I was already very tired , on my way there i sighed sliently, & tried to muster some strength to serve. And he quickly put $5 onto my hand & tried to walk away shyly(LoLs). Of course i was stunned. I didn't expect to receive any tips from customer , at least not a overwhelming one being given solely to me. Well becos it was a really busy day. Working in a Big restaurant with only other 2 Full timer. Yeah , it was totally like hell. It's so obvious that i'm trying cope with the stress & frustrations. Becos i always got task dumped by my other colleagues even when i'm already very hectic with my things to do. And i'm not trying to be a little mad , but the things they asked me to do are really simple to be done thyself(Like giving a glass of water?). But before that guy gave me the tips , he asked me to wrap the leftovers. In the corner of my eyes , i saw him holding the bills to be done for his table, i tried reach for it from his hand. But he didn't allow me to. He simply move it away from me and quickly called another colleague of mine to do the bill. And that was one surprising considerate move of a customer. Becos usually a customer will ask you to do everything , but rarely will one divide the task for you. As if he can see the tiredness straight through your eyes(maybe I've been showing too much hee) & that everyone had been asking you do to so many things till you really wanna jump down the nearest window. This was the 1st time a customer gave me a tips on my hand. It really takes a special person with a heart of love to do that. Seldom will customer even care to give tips , even if they do , not directly & enthusiastically for you. I was harboring thoughts about quitting this hell restaurant , and these tips totally keep my heads up. You never know when you'll be appreciated. Helps me a lot in persevering. And guess what? On 24th , i got another one. Hell yeah. This time it's $10. Had a Christmas dinner with my Pinoy restaurant at Botak Jones @ Esplanade after that. Had Red wine which tastes like Bleh!!! By the way i love this eye catching Christmas Decor at Suntec City. A silver pixie with pink wings. It's the best one i seen so far. Sorry , I've got a lousy camera :P ♫ A Christmas Spirit of giving can sometimes touch somebody's heart. Especially for a overworked restaurant server like me. Haha. JK :) ♫ |
